Did you know that.......

Vani Ganpathi and Kamal Haasan got married on the day of the 25th Filmfare Awards. And they made a spectacular entry with their garlands still around their necks. That year Vinod Mehra also postponed his honeymoon with wife Meena Broaca to attend the function. Both marriages did not survive.

The film that won the most awards is Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge with a remarkable ten awards. Second in line is Bimal Roy's Madhumati (1958) which won nine of the 15 awards, then, making a clean sweep of the awards ceremony that year. Next comes Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, which won eight awards

Bimal Roy won the largest number of Filmfare awards for Best Director, seven with two hat-tricks thrown in for good measure. He has also won four awards for the best producer.

That's what all Sholay freaks will do when they realise that Sholay won only one award. Naah, not best film, not best supporting actor (Sanjeev Kumar or Amjad Khan might have been strong contenders), not even best dialogue ("Arre oh Saambha" or "Tera naam kya hai, Basanti?) but best editing for M.S. Shinde! But then Guru Dutt never won an award for direction either

The first Filmfare Awards function were held amidst much anticipation. Over 20,000 votes from readers all over the country had poured in to select the best film, actor, actress, music director and singer.

Raj Kapoor never turned down an invitation to the Filmfare awards function, even if on some rare occasion, a film of his wasn't in the running. If he arrived late and an act was in progress on stage, he would refuse to go in until the act was over. That's called showmanners.

Kamal Haasan has the privilege of winning the maximum number of Filmfare awards. He's won a whopping 16 at last count. Of course, he has won them in five languages

In 1994, Alka Yagnik set a record of sorts when all five nominations for the Best Female Playback Singer Award went to her songs. That's called having all your bases covered. Ironically, she had to share her award with Ila Arun for the rambunctious blouse ditty, Choli ke peeche (Khalnayak).
